Everyone is born creative - Unlock those skills with iGen
We have creative abilities that often show up very early in
life. We are all born highly creative, school, society, and the
expectations to conform and follow the rules numbs us our off
natural innate curious and inquisitive state. Studies have shown
that between the ages of three and five 98% of children register
as highly creative, and this diminishes all the way through our
childhood to the extent that by the time we are in our mid
twenties only 2% of us register as highly creative. Cognitive
research has shown that we have 50,000 thoughts per day and
49,000 of them are the same as the day before. We tend to think
in repeated patterns much like a CD playing over and over in our
heads. Hence there are few novel thoughts and insights entering
our minds on a daily basis.
The good news however is that with awareness and practice
of creativity tools we can rebuild those creative muscles and
return to our inquisitive childish days, as creativity is very
much a skill we can relearn.
“Everyone is born a
genius. Society and our educational system ‘degeniuses’ them.”
Buckminster
Fuller
The ways in which you repeatedly think becomes a habit. If you
learn the techniques of creative thinking, and use them until
they are a habit, then creative thinking will become a natural
thing for you. In essence they enable us to mentally escape from
our conditioned thinking patterns. Combining two dissimilar
subjects creates a cognitive fusion that oftentimes leads to a
novel insight or idea.
